I completed my long run for this weekend, 15 kilometers at a pace of 6:08. The weather is still fantastic here; for the first time in 2025, I could run in shorts outside today.

Progression is always there, as long as you look for it

This morning, I completed my third run of the week and my last run of the month due to our annual skiing holiday starting tomorrow. I was disappointed with myself for not being able to run farther or faster this month than I had to date. Then I thought, why don’t I compare my 2025 January and February running results with last year’s? And so I did.

My log showed me that I am progressing and will come out better this winter season than ever before.

I completed a fun 20-minute Fartlek exercise this morning. The run was intense because my digital running coach called out the different paces by surprise and did not share how long the pace should be run. I was exhausted after 20 minutes. I was surprised to see in my data that I increased my max heart rate today with 8 bpm to 196 bpm. My average bpm during this run was 160 bpm.

2024, het jaar van mijn eerste Marathon

Degenen onder jullie die mij al een tijdje volgen weten dat ik sinds januari 2024 mijn hardlopen heb bijgehouden in een hardloop log.

Hardlopen is mijn sport is sinds 2016 en sindsdien heb ik al meerdere keren amateurwedstrijden gelopen tot een maximum afstand van 21,1 kilometer. In september 2023 nam ik mij voor om mijn hardlopen verder te verbeteren. Ik begon destijds met een schema van 10 kilometer voor het najaar om mijn trainingsritme weer op te bouwen en mijn hardlooptempo te verhogen. In januari starte ik vervolgens met een schema van 21,1 kilometer als nieuwjaarsvoornemen voor 2024. Het werkte, eind april van dit jaar liep ik de halve marathon weer binnen de twee uur.

Some reflections on the journey to my first Marathon run

Those of you following me for a while know I have been tracking my running since January of this year. While I’ve been running as my main exercise since 2016, it was not till September last year that I started to pick up things with dedication and distance-based schedules. I started with a 10-kilometer schedule for the fall season last year to rebuild my training rhythm and increase my pace. By January, I had picked up a 21.1-kilometer schedule as a New Year resolution, which ended late in April.
