March/April running progression

1 May 2025 ·

This is a follow-up post to my earlier post on measuring my progression in my running activities. I’ve added the months of March and April to my stats for 2025 below.

If you are interested in my individual runs, you should look at my 2025 Run Log.

Where March was a very good running month for me, April has been somewhat disappointing. I had to give in on my average pace and on my total duration spent running. The drop in pace and duration is primarily due to some fatigue I’m dealing with due to a hectic month at work.

Jan ’24 Jan ’25 Feb ’24 Feb ’25

Avg. Pace 6:08 5:52 6:25 6:11

I’m going to try to pick things up again in May and June, as I’d like to be fit enough to run in the Italian hills this summer.

Run Log 20250430

30 April 2025 ·

This was my much-needed 6k run after three days of walking through Berlin. I took it easy tonight as my legs are still tired from the 25000 and more steps I did for the past three days while walking through Berlin.

Overall, April 2025 hasn’t been my best running month of the year; with a little over 77 kilometers run, this is the month with the fewest kilometers in the year to date. I should accept this given the travel I had planned for this month (nine flights, six different cities, two continents), but I experience I have a hard time dealing with the results.

On to the next month it is, no complaining, only more training. Next week I’m back to the half marathon schedule I was working with, I will go back two weeks in the schedule to pick up things from there.

Berlin – Day 3

30 April 2025 ·

Yesterday was my final day in Berlin with my son, but as we were traveling back home yesterday evening, I didn’t have the time yet to upload some pictures of what we did yesterday.

On our last morning we strolled along the city again and we visited the huge and beautiful Berlin Dom. We walked up the Dom tower to see Berlin from above (again). This experience was much more worth it than the one from Sunday evening when we went up to the famous TV tower.

In the afternoon went to the Tiergarten park and had lunch at Café am Neuen See. I recommend this place if you happen to be visiting Berlin during good spring or summer weather. It’s a nice and quiet place in a vast and vibrant city.

Berlin – Day 2

28 April 2025 ·

Today was yet another fun day in Berlin. My son and I spent the morning shopping in the Charlottenburg area and the afternoon walking through different neighborhoods in the city, including:

  • Checkpoint Charlie
  • A burger and a beer at Burgemeister
  • RAW Berlin
  • Topographie des Terrors

Here are a few pictures from the RAW Berlin area.

Berlin – Day 1

27 April 2025 ·

Our first afternoon in Berlin started with a ‘Warm Welcome.’ Apparently, public transport works a little differently here than in the Netherlands. As we forgot to stamp our train tickets, my son and I were fined 60 euros each. There is no exemption; “Rules are rules,” they said.

Anyhow, we took our loss and moved on. We had a great first afternoon in the city; we visited some prominent landmarks and drank along the river.
