I was satisfied with myself as I completed this 45-minute run after a 12-hour workday. The weather in Barcelona is fantastic, so I decided to head out to the beach on a Wednesday evening to see what was going on there. It must be so lovely for all the locals in this city to always have the beach so close by. It makes me jealous.

I went for a short run this morning to kick off my day, knowing I’d be stuck in meetings and on a plane later tonight. My heart rate was higher than usual, likely because a friend called me during the run. It was enjoyable to chat while running, and it’s a good sign that I can maintain a conversation during a recovery run.

Today, I deliberately chose a less exciting track, but it provided the consistency I needed and, importantly, offered about half shade, which was a relief in this heat. The strong sun made the 10K feel tougher than usual, yet I managed to maintain a steady pace of 5:51/km, with an average heart rate of 153 bpm and a cadence of 161 steps per minute. It took some mental fitness to finish, but I’m glad I did. Overall, it was a solid sweat session and a nice balance ahead of the barbecue I’m hosting tonight.
52 Weeks – Week 42
I’m collecting 52 songs in 52 weeks. Every Friday afternoon, I add a song to my playlist. The aim is to capture my energy and feelings for that particular Friday with the chosen song.

Yesterday, Willem reminded me about the importance of consistency in running. He was right; I’ve known this all along, but I guess I just needed an extra push to get motivated again.
So here I am on the local track tonight, ready for a 25-minute run that includes a 20-minute ‘Fartlek’ exercise.
