🛫 Amsterdam – Zürich 🛬

2 February 2025 ·

I will never get used to leaving home for business on a Sunday morning. I don’t like leaving my family behind after breakfast on what is supposed to be a lazy Sunday.

I will be in Zürich the rest of this week for a large international client event we are hosting. Last year, this event was my first introduction to our clients, as I had just landed my new job. This year, I will be on stage to present to these clients about ‘future-ready product design and engineering.’

This morning, I did my fourth run of the week, a 9-kilometer run on the track, because it was still slippery and cold outside. While the run went fine, I’m not too happy with my recovery values this week. My RHR values have been much higher than usual in the past few days. This is probably due to being a bit stressed out about a big keynote presentation I need to do next week in Zürich.

Between 7 AM and 8 AM this morning, I completed a progressive tempo run on the track near my house. I started with a 1500-meter warm-up at 6:49 per kilometer. From 1500 to 6500 meters, I did a progressive tempo run, increasing my speed every kilometer from 6:00 to 5:00 per kilometer. I cooled down with another 1500 meters at 7:15.

I appreciate this type of training a lot. I appreciate the rhythm and pace I can build up on the track without being bothered by cars or cyclists.

I’m on my way back from Austria to the Netherlands. My friends take turns driving while I’m in the back of the car, surrounded by our bags and gear. I’ve been reading and tweaking my website while at it.

I’ve added some new websites to my /blogroll page. I’ve also crafted a custom RSS feed that you can use to follow these websites all at once.

I followed up with the advice from Willem this morning during the 30-minute recovery run I had planned for today.

Being patient with my running is challenging for me. I shared with Willem yesterday that I always want to feel a little exhausted after a run, and because of that, I almost always run too fast. Willem is right, though; I should train more in zones 2 and 3 to increase my pace over time. So that is what I did today, with 45% of my run being in Zone 2 and the remaining in Zone 3. My average heart rate was precisely 130 bpm.
