Another work week has passed quickly, and as my weekend is packed as well, I’m writing this thingsThisWeek number 20 on my Friday afternoon, just before the weekend starts.

- I was in Barcelona this week to join and present at our annual International Partner Summit event on Monday and Tuesday. My talk centered on my professional passion: products and technology, specifically Human Capital Management (HCM) products. I shared with the audience that in our connected, fast-moving world, creating HCM products that serve local and global clients is both challenging and rewarding. I introduced four key product themes redefining my approach to global product delivery: (1) Technically sound, (2) Desirable for the next generation of workers, (3) Viable in the open ecosystem, and (4) Work in a global context. I may write some additional blog posts on these topics in the near future.
- Of course, I continued running while I was in Barcelona, not every day, but at least on Monday and Tuesday evenings. Wednesday was a rest day, and Thursday was too, due to early meetings and an end-of-day flight back home. While I’m still a tourist in Barcelona, it is great to experience that I can run through the city without a map on my phone.
- My ISP called me this week to inform me that my fiber network is being upgraded from AON to XGS-PON technology. I was waiting for this opportunity to upgrade my network with Unifi appliances. I ordered the Cloud Gateway Fiber and an SFP+ module for my network provider this week. All should be arriving somewhere next week with more than enough time for me to prepare for the upgrade. I’ve always enjoyed network engineering and look forward to finally starting to work with UniFi hardware. With this new setup, I’m also ready to upgrade from my current 1000 Mbit/s to an even faster connection in the future. As Unifi has a lot more beautiful (and expensive) appliances, I will be upgrading the rest of my LAN, my two security cameras, the doorbell, and my three wifi access points in the coming months.
- This weekend is reserved for family quality time, including attending my kids’ field hockey games, again some running, and celebrating my mother’s birthday.
