thingsThisWeek #015

13 April 2025 ·

Fifteen weekly reflections in a row, I’m starting to get proud of my consistency.

Enjoy reading this week’s updates, and see you again next week.

  • I finished watching season 3 of Slow Horses this week. I love the series for its humor and character-building and will move straight on to the next season. Season 4 is the last season available on AppleTV, but someone told me last week that a fifth season is being worked on. I hope this is true.
  • I spent Tuesday through Friday in Chelsea, New York City, for work. During my morning walk to the office on 6th Avenue, I reminded myself of how cool it is to work there as a Dutchman. While being away from home and the family isn’t always fun, the work challenge and opportunities to see the world are rewarding.
  • I spent Saturday afternoon at the field hockey club where my kids play. It was sunny and warm, and I saw them win their games.
  • I finally found time to set up my new Mac Mini M4 this weekend and dived into the rabbit hole of MacOS-scaled resolutions. For years, I had my MacBook run a ‘scaled’ resolution when it was connected to my 4K LG screen. With the new Mac Mini, I returned to the standard, non-scaled setup. This Reddit post is a good write-up on how screen resolutions work in MacOS. TL;DR 1920×1080 on a 4k screen still means your Mac outputs 3840×2160 to the screen but scales it to 200% so that text remains readable.
  • Running has been a struggle this week. Lack of time, long-haul travel, and jetlag contribute to increased fatigue. I saw it coming last Sunday, so eventually, it was a good idea not to progress with my next training week but to do what I could.
