thingsThisWeek #027

14 July 2025 ·

It’s Monday morning once more, and I am once again late with my self-imposed deadline for my weekly ‘thingsThisWeek’ post. I intentionally chose to delay this week because I spent all day yesterday until midnight at the North Sea Jazz Festival in Rotterdam. It was too late when I got home to write an update here. Enjoy the read.

  • Last week was a whole week at home for me without any travel for work. I enjoyed being with my family, as everyone is home now that school is over in our region of the country.
  • Both my kids finished their year positively and with good grades. My son will be taking exams next year and possibly leaving the house, depending on where he goes for his studies.
  • Friday night was a boys’ night out. I met with my friends, whom I had gone to Marrakech with earlier this year. We had a lovely Friday night BBQ, and it was great catching up on everything, work, and private life.
  • My running is progressing again, slowly. I’m searching for consistency and trying to be patient; over time, it will lead to better results.
  • On Saturday, my wife and I hosted a BBQ at our house. A few years in now, this has become a tradition; we BBQ with the same group of six friends at the start of the school holidays.
  • On Sunday, my wife and I spent the whole day and evening at North Sea Jazz. We’ve been wanting to attend this festival for a long time, and this year it finally fit our schedules. We enjoyed ourselves a lot watching and listening to: Thee Sacred Souls, Lady Blackbird, Jorja Smith, and Diana Ross. Lady Blackbird was my favorite of the day. Her voice is fantastic, and the funk that her three person band played even better. Wow!
The Sacred Souls
Not a small festival
Diana Ross, still going strong.
