thingsThisWeek #014

6 April 2025 ·

Last week was a busy week, and I’m still feeling tired in my body from traveling, working, and continuing to run. I was happy to be home again late Thursday night after eight days of consecutive travel.

Enjoy reading my thingsThisWeek number 14.

  • I just finished reading Vos in de VS by Dutch journalist Michiel Vos. For someone who works for an American-headquartered company and travels to the United States multiple times a year, this was a very recognizable and balanced story. The book is worth reading if you want to understand more about American politics.
  • I subscribed to the New York Times, next to my Dutch newspaper, to get a broader perspective on the news coming across from the ocean. I also muted a lot of political topics in Ivory and Tapestry to keep my anxiety about what is happening in the world low.
  • This week’s training schedule was challenging to complete as my workdays are long, and my nights are shorter than I’m used to. I adjusted my Sunday long run to a 40-minute recovery run on the track. Next week will be another tough week to complete. I’m considering doing this week’s training again next week to compensate for this. Extending my 12-week schedule to a 13-week schedule isn’t an issue, as I haven’t planned for a race (yet).
  • The Formula 1 race in Japan was a bit boring, but the Suzuka circuit is still one of my favorites. Have a look at this year’s qualifying battle between Verstappen and Norris.
  • I was in Cascais (near Lisbon) from Monday until Thursday. Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t very good, and I didn’t have much time to leave the hotel. So, no pictures from this trip.
